Its’ starting now: The five-month comprehensive renovation of the route between Frankfurt/Main and Mannheim – known as the Riedbahn – has begun.
The Federal Minister of Transport Dr. Volker Wissing and DB’s CEO Dr. Richard Lutz gave the go-ahead for the pilot project early yesterday evening in Gernsheim. We are ready – as Dr. Richard Lutz confirmed during a ride on our Vectron Dual Mode vehicle. The route has been closed since 11 pm, and we can finally get started.
The Riedbahn is one of the busiest routes in Germany with over 300 trains per day. Together with our colleagues, we are doing our best to renovate this important part of the railway infrastructure in Germany.
The Riedbahn is the first route in Germany to undergo a comprehensive renovation. The Riedbahn project, which SPITZKE is implementing with many partner companies, is also the start of the nationwide general renovation of heavily used routes. Over the next six years, a total of 40 high-frequency corridor routes with a combined length of over 4,000 kilometers will be completely renovated. We wish our colleagues the best of success!
