Hamburg–Berlin Corridor now Fully Operational

Germany’s most important direct inter-city rail link has come into service, marking the official completion of the corridor upgrade – the longest to date at 278 km.

With the opening of the entire Hamburg–Berlin corridor yesterday, Sunday, we can look back on a successful and highly challenging project. Thanks to a high level of commitment, great perseverance and a great deal of extra effort, we have brought this major project to a successful conclusion. Thank you to everyone involved, especially our colleagues on site, who have tackled an enormous workload since spring 2025 and made the successful commissioning of the Hamburg–Berlin corridor possible in the first place.

The greatest challenges lay in the volume of works involved in Lot 1 (Hamburg–Büchen) and Lot 2 (Büchen–Dergenthin), as well as the large number of trades working simultaneously on the construction site that needed to be co-ordinated. During the same period, we also carried out other major projects, including the Neustadt-Glewe–Parchim construction project and the Anhalter Bahn. DUA works and some dismantling and remaining tasks will now continue until autumn. Congratulations on the full commissioning. All the information is available on the project page.
