Rehearsing for an Emergency – Emergency Drill on the Tracks

In collaboration with local fire departments, several accident scenarios were simulated on the Nuremberg–Regensburg corridor project. About 70 emergency responders practiced for a real emergency during a drill in Parsberg. During the drill, several operational accidents were staged and practiced.

The exercise took place on the Nuremberg–Regensburg line, where we provided our equipment—a locomotive and an OLA vehicle. A collision involving a construction crew, in which five people were injured – including the train driver – was simulated on the Parsberg passing loop. The exercise also included the use of technical rescue equipment to free trapped individuals.

Another simulation during the Emergency Drill on the Tracks involved a fallen overhead line that had seriously injured a person. This is where the DB emergency manager came into play, as the faulty overhead line had to be earthed before the injured person could be treated.

Together with the fire brigades from Darshofen, Seubersdorf and Parsberg, the site supervision team and the client, emergency plans, reporting procedures and effective cooperation were practised in the various scenarios. Furthermore, the emergency drill was designed to test access routes to difficult-to-reach terrain featuring a steep railway embankment.
