General Overhaul of Corridor Rechter Rhein Has Begun
Today marks the start of our construction work on the Rechter Rhein corridor project.
At 9.00 pm, the line between Wiesbaden and Troisdorf will be completely closed. Until 12 December 2026 (provisionally), a wide range of works will be carried out in a coordinated manner to completely refurbish this busy line. In our construction section – Lot 2, covering 41.3 km from Kaub to Oberlahnstein – we, as the main contractor, are responsible for all aspects of the railway infrastructure refurbishment; all our areas of expertise are being called upon.
Together with our partners, we are carrying out the work, ranging from the track itself to logistics, foundations, equipment and electrical engineering, right through to welding operations. The most extensive list of contracts is in the Large Scale Projects/Structural Engineering division. The complex structural and civil engineering services include, for example:
- Construction and refurbishment of eight railway viaducts
- Demolition of a pedestrian footbridge; construction of three culverts
- Modernisation of eight transport stations, including platforms, staircases and roofs, lifts and pedestrian tunnels
- Refurbishment of 1,800 m of gravity retaining walls and 5,800 m² of rock slope stabilisation
Following a preparatory closure in July 2025 and many months of intensive coordination, planning and preparation, construction work is now getting underway.
Our teams are closing tracks and points, installing Sh2 discs and deactivating point motors. Three signal boxes and the overhead line are being switched off, the OLA earthing concept is being implemented, and the arrival of material supply trains as well as the single-track operation are being coordinated. This major project is getting under way and will be up and running within a few hours. We wish all our colleagues a successful start to the project.
