Rehabilitation of the Anhalter Bahn from Berlin to Halle
Two main lines run south out of Berlin. The connection from Berlin-Südkreuz to Dresden, known as the Dresdner Bahn, was comprehensively upgraded by us and our joint venture partners. This included giving the long-distance line, which previously shared the S-Bahn tracks, its own dedicated route.
Near Südkreuz station, the Dresdner Bahn and the Anhalter Bahn diverge. The latter runs from the former Anhalter Bahnhof in Berlin via Lutherstadt Wittenberg to Halle Central Station. In operation since 1841, it is one of the earliest long-distance railway lines in Germany and connected Berlin with the Duchy of Anhalt in the 19th century.
Rehabilitation work on the Anhalter Bahn
In the current construction phase from September 24 to December 13, which had already been prepared by our track teams in 2024, a total of 92 points and 138 km of track will be newly built or rehabilitated between Berlin-Südkreuz and Bitterfeld. We have been awarded Lot 1 North, covering the section from Südkreuz to Trebbin, and are responsible for the renewal of the track infrastructure for this section. In addition to the main work (see below), numerous additional tasks will be carried out. The full scope of which has not yet been finally determined. It is already clear that extensive maintenance work on the Teltow Canal Bridge has also been commissioned. On both tracks of the bridge, special sleepers will be installed and an additional third guard rail will be renewed. Other works — for example in the Genshagener Heide, where among other things a point renewal will be carried out — will be implemented in 2026.
Great Preparation for Logistical Challenges
As with all major projects, particular attention was paid during preparation to the development of the logistics concept. Together with our logistics subsidiary, SLG SPITZKE LOGISTIK GmbH, we are responsible, for example, for transporting the track materials from the tariff station in Königs Wusterhausen. Disposal in Trebbin ensures short transport distances but must be precisely coordinated with the company carrying it out for Lot 2 South. In order for our cleaning machine, which has been in operation since last weekend, to function smoothly, the removed materials must be transported away frequently. In numerous preparatory discussions with the certified waste disposal company, our project management team identified the best possible solutions.
Our Großbeeren branch is responsible for carrying out the track construction works with the support of other locations. The Equipment / Electrical Engineering Department is on site with its teams from the overhead contact line systems, signaling train control and electrical power systems divisions. They are responsible for the grounding concept, point equipment as well as cable management and carrying out overhead line inspections. SPITZKE Logistik is responsible for shunting and transport.
