Since the beginning of April, foundation work for the electrification of the track between Hamburg-Eidelstedt and Kaltenkirchen has been underway at the SPITZKE construction site. On April 19, representatives from politics and the press inspected the project.
The electrification of the AKN route A1/S21 (the future S5) has been in the spotlight in northern Germany since the very beginning. After all, the project originated from an initiative by the states of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein and is of great importance for public transportation in northern Hamburg.
Therefore, on April 19, there was also an on-site press event, attended by Tobias von der Heide, State Secretary in the Ministry of Economy, Transport, Labor, Technology, and Tourism of the state of Schleswig-Holstein (Photo: 2nd from left), and Dr. Arne Beck, Managing Director of Nahverkehrsverbund (public transport association) Schleswig-Holstein GmbH, along with representatives from politics and public transportation.
In addition to welcoming statements from Tobias von der Heide, Dr. Beck as well as from AKN Managing Director Matthias Meyer and Robert Schaetzke, Head of Overhead Line Systems at SPITZKE SE, the highlight of the day was a live demonstration of mast foundations using a drilling procedure explained by Björn Schmidt-Dudek, Head of the Leer branch. Project Manager Karsten Hedemann and Andre Bertram, Head of Calculation UB A/E, were also on-site to answer questions.
Work is currently in full swing on construction section 2 between Hamburg-Eidelstedt and Burgwedel. All overhead line measures on the 12 km stretch are scheduled to be completed by September 1st. Over the coming weeks, SPITZKE’s teams will install around 160 masts in this section. The entire project consists of approximately 1000 masts and should be completed by March 2027.
