Next Corridor Project Introduced: Nürnberg–Regensburg

While the HLK Hamburg–Berlin project will officially start in just a few days, we are already preparing for the next large-scale corridor project on the Nürnberg–Regensburg line. The entire Route 5850 from Nürnberg to Regensburg is approximately 88 km long and will undergo general rehabilitation from February 6 to July 10, 2026. We have been awarded construction-section 1 from Regensburg to Neumarkt and will deliver the renewal of this section as the general contractor.

Extensive work must be completed within a very short time frame for the Regensburg-Neumarkt corridor project. “With the start of the main closure, the worksite is available to us for only ten to eleven weeks without restrictions. Once the section is handed over in stages to the signaling and train control technicians on May 1, 2026, we will only be able to carry out minor works,” says our responsible project manager.

Overview of the Main Work for the Nürnberg–Regensburg Corridor Project, Construction Section 1

One of the most extensive scopes of work is the foundations. Our Leer branch will construct 1,100 mast foundations and install a total of 1,200 overhead line masts. Our manufacturing companies play a major role in this: SPITZKE FAHRWEGSYSTEME GmbH in Möllenhagen is producing the foundation heads for the foundations, and MuR-STAHLBAU GmbH in Naumburg is manufacturing the 1,200 masts for the overhead contact line.

In addition to the 60 km of track renewal using assembly line methods, the track formation will be improved over 30 km, while 5 km will be rebuilt using conventional methods with complete ballast renewal. Due to the tight schedule, our teams will be operating around the clock with Katharina the Great, our RPM-RS-900 formation rehabilitation machine.

The track works carried out by the Buchloe branch, the Track Construction Machinery division, SLG SPITZKE LOGISTIK GmbH, the Central Competence Center, and the Großbeeren branch also include the renewal of at least 22 points, the installation of 3 km of deep drainage, 7 km of filter drains, and 66 manholes. Our track crews will also construct 30 km of cable duct routes with various cable chambers and 63 km of maintenance access roads.

Work Done on the Laabertal Viaduct and the Donau Bridge

The electrical engineering works will be carried out by the Equipment / Electrical Engineering division in cooperation with our subcontractors. Our colleagues are responsible, among other things, for 80 km of catenary system, 60 km of feeder lines, and the installation of approximately 25 km of cable. The additional figures further illustrate the scale of the project: SPITZKE SCHWEISSTECHNIK GmbH will perform 1,700 welds, unload 132 km of rail, and install and/or remove 280,000 metric tons of bulk materials.

Another extraordinary task is the work on two railway bridges, each approximately 200 m long, which will be carried out by the Buchloe branch. On the Mariaort railway bridge over the Danube and the Laabertal railway bridge, a total of 930 bridge girders will be replaced. For safety reasons, the Laabertal Viaduct, built between 1870-1872 and rising 42 mm above ground, as well as the Danube bridge must be fully scaffolded.
