With the successful completion of the first construction phase, Ammersee Railway Line Back in Operation and trains have been running again since Saturday, December 14th. The team from Buchloe demonstrated outstanding commitment during what has been the branch’s largest individual project to date. The construction project involved extensive earthworks, which, as previously reported, proved extremely challenging due to exceptionally soft ground conditions. In areas which were once part of Lake Ammersee, even specialized equipment designed to stabilize the ground with lime and cement injections was ineffective. However, this obstacle was overcome thanks to the close coordination between the project management team and the subcontractors: a complete soil replacement over a particularly critical 300-meter section provided the appropriate solution.
A particular highlight of this major project was the close and goal-oriented collaboration with the Deutsche Bahn AG. Our project management team emphasized the excellent cooperation and constructive exchange with the client’s representatives. Despite all challenges and a tight lead time, the Ammersee Railway Line was successfully put back into operation, and regular activity resumed punctually with the introduction of the winter timetable.
Detailed site inspections, scheduled for January, will establish a solid foundation for planning the execution of the second construction phase. Our team from Buchloe will once again face the challenge. Approximately half of the scope of the work is scheduled to be completed between August and October 2025, although the exact closure period has yet to be determined. However, it doesn’t take much imagination to assume it will be ambitiously short.
