Our Continuous Tamping Robot, officially designated the S7 CPLS 32 4.0, is designed for semi-automatic and fully automatic operation. Its tamping unit is, in effect, a completely new development. It is the first fully digitalised tamping robot of its kind, capable of working on both tracks and points in continuous dual-sleeper mode. The tamping unit can carry out the tamping process automatically.

The ‘S7 automatic tamping’ system (tamping with automatic settling time) brings benefits for people, the environment and the material (ballast), whilst also counteracting wear on the tamping components. The tamping unit vibrates only during immersion and tamping. It remains stationary 65 per cent of the time, which leads to a reduction in noise emissions and the equivalent continuous sound level by more than 7 dB(A). Furthermore, the fine dust emissions generated during operation are a good half lower than with comparable conventional units.

Functional Characteristics

  • S7 automatic tamping: The machine automatically controls the optimum tamping time and compaction, thereby extending the service life of the track geometry compared with conventional drive systems
  • Noise reduction: equivalent continuous sound level reduced by more than 7 dB(A) – the unit is stationary for over 65 per cent of the time and vibrates only when lowering and positioning
  • Particulate matter: around 50 per cent lower particulate matter emissions than comparable conventional machines
  • CO₂: more than 500 kg CO₂eq per shift, or around 35 per cent less CO₂ than a comparable machine
  • Braking energy recovery via hydraulic accumulators
  • EN 13848-3-certified inertial measurement and navigation system (3 fibre-optic gyroscopes, 3 precision inclinometers) with an optical machine measurement system
  • Automatic switch working in dual-sleeper mode thanks to independently transversely movable split-head units.
  • ‘Cable-free zone’: exclusively contactless, robust position sensors in the hydraulic cylinders – greater reliability, less maintenance
  • Ester-based bio-hydraulic oil (Panolin HLP Synth 46)
  • Data platforms RaVeM (condition monitoring) and InfraME (ballast bed condition report)
