Together with State Secretary Dr. Steffen Eichner, representatives and partners from the Environmental Alliance of Saxony-Anhalt visited MuR-STAHLBAU GmbH to learn about our activities regarding environmental protection and sustainability. On-site, Mark Fisher, Frank Dörnbrack, and Mario Schirner provided insights into the business areas at SPITZKE SE and MuR. Additionally, the discussions focused on our group-wide sustainability strategy and MuR’s specific measures in this regard. “With our core business, the production of steel masts for railway infrastructure, we actively promote sustainable and climate-friendly rail-bound mobility,” said Mark Fisher.
MuR-STAHLBAU GmbH specializes in railway-specific, industrial, and general steel construction. For example, we produce steel masts for signal systems and overhead lines with the highest quality standards. With around 90 employees, MuR-STAHLBAU has been manufacturing in the region for 27 years.
MuR’s managing Director Frank Dörnbrack pointed out to the interested visitors that MuR-STAHLBAU GmbH started investing in renewable energies 15 years ago. “As early as 2009, the company installed a 620 m² solar system on the production hall, which produces an average of 56,400 kWh of electricity per year. The contract with Technical Works Naumburg runs until 2029. By then, we will have produced approximately 1,100 MWh of electricity from solar energy.” State Secretary Dr. Steffen Eichner was also convinced, stating, “MuR-STAHLBAU GmbH exemplifies how companies can produce in an environmentally and climate-friendly manner while simultaneously succeeding in the market.”
MuR STAHLBAU GmbH has always strived to reduce its CO2 emissions. In 2018 and 2019, two electric forklifts were purchased, which immediately cut internal diesel consumption by two-thirds, saving approximately 4,300 liters of diesel annually. This corresponds to a reduction of around 11,400 kg of CO2. Additionally, the conversion of all production halls – over 5,000 m² in total – to energy-efficient LED lighting from 2015 to 2019 has saved more than 83,000 kWh of electricity per year since 2019. The extensive machine technology of MuR-STAHLBAU GmbH has been and continues to be continuously modernized. This modernization ranges from retrofitting older drive motors to acquiring highly efficient machines such as the flame cutting machine and the grinding and deburring machine. In April 2024, the company invested in a modern sawing and shot-blast machine that consumes up to 25% less electricity.
During a tour of the company premises, everyone present got an impression of the innovated production facilities and modern fleet of machinery. They exchanged their views regarding further sustainable, environmentally friendly innovations planned by MuR.
