Apprenticeship as a Civil Engineering Specialist/Track Layer (m/f/d)

As a civil engineering specialist/track layer, you can expect a variety of tasks. You will work wherever tracks and points are repaired, maintained, or newly built. Things get exciting for you when you’re responsible for maintaining the rail networks for long-distance and regional trains, S-Bahns and U-Bahns, trams, and industrial railways. To ensure that everything remains safe and functional, you will use modern technology to lay tracks and points, replace sleepers or renew the track bed. Together with your colleagues, you’ll carry out ballast cleaning and renewal, as well as civil engineering tasks such as laying paving and asphalt surfaces, as well as ensuring operational readiness and safety in rail traffic.

What you’ll learn during your apprenticeship
  • Civil engineering: In the first two years, we will train you as a civil engineering specialist. You will learn how construction pits, trenches and formworks are created. You’ll carry out excavation work, produce paving, slabs and asphalt surfaces. In your first year of training, you’ll already acquire the skills to read and create plans and sketches.
  • Tracks: During the last year, you’ll receive a further qualification to a track layer. You will become an expert in rails and tracks. To ensure that the tracks aren’t renewed only when it’s too late, you’ll also learn how to evaluate the degree of wear and tear and will be called upon when breaks need to be repaired.
  • Teamwork: Our experienced SPITZKE training team is always by your side to support you in your diverse tasks.
You should become a civil engineer/track layer if you…
  • either have or will soon have a lower secondary/intermediate school certificate (Hauptschulabschluss) or a more advance qualification.
  • enjoyed technology, sports, and geometry in school.
  • are good with your hands, interested in technology and have good spatial awareness.
  • enjoy working in a team and contributing to the team.
