“Experience SPITZKE up close” – was the motto of this year’s series of events where SPITZKE informed young people and their parents about the diverse training opportunities within the company group which has more than 2,300 employees and consistently continues its commitment to the region. In addition to guided tours through the 5,600 m² factory workshop at the main site and visits to SPITZKE’s technology park, there were also numerous stations where anyone interested could find out about career prospects at SPITZKE. Moreover, many SPITZKE employees and apprentices kept this day free so they could answer the visitor’s many questions about apprenticeships at SPITZKE.

Tobias Borstel didn’t pass up the opportunity either. The mayor of Großbeeren dropped in for a lively discussion during the event. He had discussions with Jenny Malter, Head of the SPITZKE AKADEMIE, Christian Krippahl, HR Director, as well as with some of our apprentices about SPITZKE’s commitment to the career prospects of young people in the region.

“Recruiting young people is one of the core issues in our industry,” says Christian Krippahl looking back on the event. “In order to inspire young people to start a career in the railway system, we believe it’s important to experience this working environment up close and to show all the various career prospects. In addition to the amount of positive feedback on Apprentice Day, we are now looking forward to the upcoming conversations with young people who expressed their interest in an apprenticeship at SPITZKE and handed in their applications.”

SPITZKE’s student competition is aimed at students majoring in civil, industrial or mechanical engineering or mechatronics. This year, the task involves creating a concept for the implementation of BIM projects (BIM = Building Information Modeling) in the field of railway infrastructure at SPITZKE SE using the example of a track extension at the company’s headquarters GVZ Berlin Sud in Großbeeren.

The student competition is an important element for SPITZKE in supporting young talent within the railway system. “In order to be able to continue to promote sustainable mobility in Germany and Europe in the future, it is important that we already have an eye on the skilled workers of tomorrow.” Explains HR Director Christian Krippahl. “Due to this, everyone at SPITZKE is committed to the future of young people on a broader level – with the SPITZKE student competition as well as with our university partnerships, dual courses of study and our extensive apprenticeship program.

The program for SPITZKE’s 4^th Apprentice Day will therefore include numerous career-path stations with practical exercises, inspections of track construction machinery, checking application documents, rides with the company’s own locomotive simulator and much more.

SPITZKE invests a lot of energy in the training of its junior staff and has had an increasing number of apprenticeships with a high hiring rate for years. In 2021 alone, 226 apprentices and bachelor students learned everything they need to get off to a good career start at SPITZKE.
